Diving into an Unique Steam Demo: Controlling a Piece of Feces with the Goal to Find the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is in full swing, and enthusiasts have discovered a variety of entertaining creations from small studios. But, one catches the eye for its unconventional concept. Titled Unko Technica, this old-school styled jumping adventure lets you play a protagonist that is actually a turd trying to make its way to a toilet. In case you're wondering, "Unko" is Japanese for "poop."

Player controls is easy to grasp: press a jump control. Throughout 150 stages, encounter tough enemies and visit a shop to buy skins for your fecal avatar.

Execute your actions with caution, since one wrong move means beginning again. Bounce using air pockets to hurl yourself to new heights, navigate disappearing surfaces, and interact with buttons to reveal secret routes. Gather coins for buying challenging stages where gameplay gets crazy.

Visually, the experience boasts vibrant environments and an amazing background music. Its minimalist visual style of moving basic polygons may remind players of old favorites like Earthbound.

While it's difficult to name similar titles where you are a coiled turd, video games often featured scatological themes. For example, in Death Stranding, players create explosives from character excrement. Examples include Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved utilize feces as soil enrichment. Naturally, such content shows up a lot in the South Park RPG The Stick of Truth.

Putting aside its silly idea, Unko Technica has already garnered impressive awards, including taking top honors at a major publisher's game competition in 2023. This trial version is ready now on Steam, with the complete version set to debut on PC in the fall.
